Demographics Forms

Demographics forms can be administered in a number of ways. For in-person studies, you can administer it as a piece of paper or via a document on the computer (e.g., PDF or Google form). For online studies, you can administer it as a feature embedded in your task (e.g., a questionnaire embedded in your Gorilla task) or as a Google form that the participant is linked to from Gorilla (or whatever online experiment builder you are using).

 

Whichever format you choose, you should be able to link the participant’s data to their demographics form, so that you know the demographics of the participants who took part in your experiment. The easiest way to do that for online studies is to embed the demographics questionnaire in your online experiment, so that the data are always linked to the demographics. The downside of a Google form linked to your online experiment is that the participant may not know their Prolific / MTurk ID, and that may make it challenging to connect their demographics to their data.

 

One solution around this is to have participants’ info auto-populate on the Google form:
